Today in the in the Ministry of the Environment the contracts for financing of Climate Change Financial Instrument for the realization of innovative projects in order to decrease greenhouse gas emissions were signed.
From 12ve of July to 13th of July, the Minister of Environment Raimonds Vejonis will participate in the informal meeting of European Union (EU) ministers of the environment at (further - the meeting) that will be held in Gent, Belgium.
On Monday June 28, 2010 at 12:00 the Minister of Environment Raimonds Vejonis and Mayor of Riga Nils Usakovs are going to evaluate the progress of building heat insulation works in Ilguciems Riga Secondary School, 109 Dzirciema Street. As is known, the Ministry of the Environment organizes and provides a major share of funding for a number of building heat insulation projects all around the Latvia, using the assets of Climate Change Financial Instrument.
On June 18th at 11:00 in Baldone, Rigas Str 27, the new sewage water treatment plant will be opened by the minister of the Environment of the Republic of Latvia Mr. Raimonds Vejonis. State secretary of the ministry of the environment Guntis Pukitis and director of the Investment department Vija Geme will also participate in this event.
Today, June 15, her Majesty's Ambassador to the Republic of Latvia Andrew Soper paid an introductory visit to the Minister of Environment Raimonds Vejonis.
Minister of the environment Raimonds Vejonis will participate in the EU Environmental ministers’ council, than will take place in Luxemburg. The main topic for the discussions in this meeting will be climate change – the research for the possibilities to determine the goal of emissions decrease for more than 20% and to evaluate the risks of carbon emissions displacement.
The minister of the Environment Raimonds Vejonis disapproves the municipality of Valmiera for the issued permission to cut put the trees at the Janis Dalins stadium in Valmiera. R. Vejonis points out that the desire of the municipality to order the local infrastructure is understandable, though in adoption of such decision it is important to observe the principle of proportion.
We would like to inform you that last week ten European companies were nominated for the 2010 edition of the European Business Awards for the Environment. Winners will be officially announced during the Awards Ceremony, which will take place in Brussels, on 2 June, during Green Week.

On February 12 at 11:00 in ministry of Environment the discussion will be held about the impact of human made unmanaged waste on human health and the environment. Minister of Environment will say the opening speech. Local municipalities are welcome to participate in this discussion along with media.
On February 9 minister of environment of Latvia together with the president of Latvia will participate in BSAS in Helsinki. Leaders from around the Baltic Sea - Estonia, Denmark, Norway, Latvia, and Lithuania - will discuss how to save the sick sea at the meeting hosted by Finland's President Tarja Halonen, Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen and the Baltic Sea Action Group (BSAG).

There will be political debates on results of the Climate change summit which took place in Copenhagen in 2009 and the future solutions, as well as the issues of green and eco efficient economics will be considered with an emphasis on green Technologies in national economy.

From December 17 minister of Environment Raimonds Vejonis participates the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15) taking place at Bella Center in Copenhagen. The main aim of the conference is to establish an ambitious global climate agreement for the period from 2012 when the first commitment period under the Kyoto Protocol expires.

From December 7 to 12 minister of Environment Mr Vejonis will visit Georgia and Armenia in order to meet environmental ministers of these countries and discuss urgent environmental issues.
On December 3, in the meeting of the State Secretaries, administrative project prepared by the Ministry of the Environment “On National readiness plan for oil, dangerous or hazardous substances pollution in the sea” was announced (hereafter – regulations project).

The constract on behalf of the ministry of Environment was signed by the state secretary Mr Guntis Pukitis.

On October 29 Dr Antony Stoukes from the British Embassy in Latvia presented climate change map to the minister of the Environment Raimonds Vejonis. The map shows some of the impacts that may occur if the global average temperature rises by 4 °C.

Latvia and Portugal have finalized negotiations about the sale and purchase of Latvia’s Assigned Amount Units (AAUs). On 21 October 2009 Portugal with Latvia will sign its first agreement for the purchase of the AAUs.

On October 5 minister of environment Raimonds Vejonis on behalf of government of Latvia signed the contract about selling the assigned amount units (AAU) to New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) from Japan thereby attaining a new financing for Climate Change financing instrument.

A treaty to protect the ozone layer, which shields all life on Earth from deadly levels of ultra violet rays, has scored a first in the history of international environmental agreements. Today Mr. Xanana Gusmão, the Prime Minister of the young Pacific nation of Timor-Leste, announced that it had ratified the Montreal Protocol making this the first environmental agreement to achieve universal participation by 196 parties.
